Last updated: 18 October 2026 · Cue is in beta.
Cue helps you find something to watch. This page explains what we collect, why, who helps us run Cue, and how you stay in control. Short version: we collect only what Cue needs to work, we never sell your data, there are no ads or trackers, and you can download or delete everything at any time.
Who we are
Cue is run by Melanvi, a company based in Spain. Questions or requests: cue@melanvi.com.
What we collect
- Account: your email address and a securely hashed version of your password (we never see or store the password itself).
- Profile: if you sign in with Google, the first name and profile photo on your Google account (you can change the name any time). Optional, only if you add them: your birthday, used to give you a treat on the day, and your gender, used only in totals to understand who uses Cue. Neither is shown to anyone or used to pick movies for you. If you choose to, a photo for your avatar: it is cropped and filtered on your phone, stored as a small image, and shown wherever your avatar shows (your profile, friends, leagues, reviews). Remove it any time in the avatar editor; deleting your account deletes it.
- Your taste: the scores you give movies, your lists, your "Great pick" / "Not for me" votes, and your chosen country.
- Chat: the messages you send to Cue's movie chat, together with your scores, are sent to our AI provider to generate a reply. We do not store your chat conversations. When you vote on a pick, we save that vote with your last few chat messages so we can learn which suggestions work.
- Popcorn, streaks and leagues: when signed in, we keep your popcorn, streak, quests, trophies, avatar and screen name. Each week you are placed in a league room with other people; they see your screen name, avatar and the popcorn you earned that week, never your email or real name unless you choose it as your screen name.
- Friends, nicknames and your public profile: your nickname is unique, so people who type it exactly can send you a friend request (there is no user search). Anyone in your weekly league room can tap your name and see your public profile: nickname, avatar, league, the month you joined, streak, how many films you have scored, popcorn earned, trophies and your two most-scored genres. Never your email, lists, scores or reviews. You become friends when you accept a request or someone joins with your invite link. Friends see your screen name, avatar, streak and a Taste Match percentage worked out from the films you've both scored, including which ones you both loved or disagree on. Only if you switch on "Share my scores and trophies with my friends" do they also see the films you score and the trophies you unlock. When a friend asks Cue to pick a movie for the two of you (Watch now / Pick a movie together), Cue's AI uses both people's scores, likes and watched films to find something you'll both enjoy and neither has seen; your friend sees the picks and short reasons, not your list of scores.
- Reviews: reviews you publish are public with your nickname and avatar. We keep who applauded, tipped or reported a review so popcorn and moderation work; that is never shown to others. Deleting your account deletes your reviews.
- Shared lists: when you share a list, everyone who joins with the invite link can rename it, add or remove movies, and see how many people are in it. They don't see your email. If you leave, the list stays with the others; when the last person leaves, it is deleted.
- Usage counts: how many chat messages you sent each day, to enforce the fair-use limit.
- App usage: simple events such as "opened the app", "tapped a mood", "played a trailer" or "scored a movie", linked to your account if you're signed in. We use them only to see which features help and to fix what doesn't.
- Crash reports: if something breaks, the error message, the page and your browser type, so we can fix it.
Usage events and crash reports stay on Cue's own servers. We do not collect your name, location, contacts, or payment details, and we don't use third-party analytics, advertising or tracking tools.
Why we use it
To run your account, sync it across your devices, make suggestions for you, and improve Cue's suggestions overall, including training our own recommendation models. Our legal basis is providing the service you asked for (contract) and our legitimate interest in improving it, which you can object to at any time with the "Help improve Cue" switch.
How Cue learns, and your choice
To make suggestions better for everyone, Cue learns from how people use it: which movies it suggested for which mood, and what happened next (for example, you loved a pick, played its trailer, added it to a list, watched it or gave it a score). We use this, together with ratings and votes, to improve Cue's own recommendations, including recommendation models we build and run ourselves.
- Your choice: this is on by default, and you can switch it off at any time in Account → "Help improve Cue". When it's off, Cue stops recording your usage events and the suggestions you're shown. Crash reports are still sent, without your account details, so we can fix bugs.
- Never sold or shared: we don't sell your data or give it to others to train their AI.
- Outside AI: chat replies come from Anthropic's Claude through its commercial API, under terms in which Anthropic does not use API inputs or outputs to train its models by default.
- Deleting your account removes this data too.
Who helps us run Cue (subprocessors)
| Provider | What for | Data involved |
|---|---|---|
| Render | Hosting the app | All app traffic |
| Turso | Database | Account and taste data |
| Anthropic | AI movie chat and the Cue Review | Chat messages, scores and votes, only when you chat. Cue Review essays are written from public film information only; nothing about you is sent. |
| TMDB | Movie info and posters | Your browser loads poster images from TMDB's servers |
| YouTube (Google) | Trailers | Only when you press Trailer (privacy-enhanced mode) |
Where-to-watch information comes from JustWatch via TMDB; no data about you is sent to JustWatch.
Some "where to watch" links are affiliate links (for example Amazon or Apple). If you buy or subscribe after following one, Cue may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. The link only tells the service that you came from Cue; Cue does not learn what you do there.
Friday night pick (notifications)
If you turn on the Friday night pick in Settings, your browser gives Cue a push subscription (an address and keys issued by your browser or phone maker, such as Google or Apple). We store it with your account and use it for one notification a week, with one film chosen from your scores. Turn it off in Settings or in your phone's notification settings; the subscription is then deleted.
Cookies and storage
We use one strictly necessary cookie to keep you signed in, and your browser's local storage to remember your data on your device. No analytics, advertising or tracking cookies, so there's nothing to consent to.
How long we keep it
As long as you have an account. When you delete your account, your account, scores, lists, votes, usage counts and app usage events are deleted immediately. Crash reports never include your account details.
Your rights
You can download all your data (Account → Download my data) and delete your account (Account → Delete my account) at any time inside the app. You can also ask us to access, correct or delete your data, or object to how we use it, by emailing us. If you're in the EU or UK, you can complain to your data protection authority.
Children
Accounts are for people 14 or older. Anyone who says they are under 14 can still use Cue without an account: their scores and lists stay on their own device, usage events and learning are switched off, and nothing is linked to them on our servers. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 14, we delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect.
